Schools and gans in Modiin: registration, after-school care and help for olim

How gan and school registration works in Modiin, what is known about 2027-28, the city's tzaharon and daycare options, and the support olim children get.

Modiin's schools are state (mamlachti) and state-religious (mamlachti-dati), plus special education, and both streams have gans and schools in every neighbourhood (municipality, Feb 2026 (opens in a new tab)). Nefesh B'Nefesh notes that there are no Chareidi schools in the city (NBN (opens in a new tab)).

Registration for 2027-28 (5788)

As of 9 October 2026 the city has not yet published the dates or age table for 5788. Registration for the coming year is normally online in January-February. For reference, the 2026-27 (5787) window ran from 19 January 2026 at 09:00 to 8 February 2026 at midnight (municipality, Jul 2026 (opens in a new tab)). Watch that page from December.

The 5787 age bands were:

FrameworkBorn in
Grade 12020
Gan chova (age 5)2021
Trom-chova (age 4)2022
Trom-trom-chova (age 3)2023

Each year the bands move on by one year, and children already in a gan must register again every year (municipality (opens in a new tab)). Placements and appeal results appear on the city's registration portal (opens in a new tab); for 5787 they were published from 16 July 2026.

New residents: the online route

You upload both parents' ID appendices (sefach) listing the children, lawyer-certified pages of the rental or purchase contract, and a registration-cancellation form from your previous city. Approval comes by email within five business days; later you show an arnona payment and the updated ID address (municipality (opens in a new tab)). The Citizen Service Centre, 29 Emek Dotan (08-6499695) certifies the documents free. The registration desk is open Sun and Wed 08:30-10:30, tel. 08-9726108.

Olim: email before you register

Olim and returning residents should email eduolim@modiin.muni.il before registering (municipality (opens in a new tab)):

  • With an Israeli ID number: follow the new-resident route, but attach a letter saying you are arriving from abroad instead of the cancellation form.
  • Without an ID number: register by email with passports and a signed Modiin rental or purchase contract.

The city's coordinator for immigrant and returning students (073-2326361) runs a three-step process: a meeting with her, municipal registration, then a meeting with the school. Bring IDs or passports, the teudat oleh, the housing contract, last year's report cards and any assessments (municipality (opens in a new tab)).

Support for olim children

  • In-school ulpan and tutoring hours funded by the Ministry of Education, Bagrut accommodations, and an absorption subsidy towards parents' payments for the first 1-3 years. Every school has an olim coordinator, and more than 1,000 immigrant and returning students study in the city (municipality (opens in a new tab)).
  • The Absorption Department runs a Sunday learning centre for olim children aged 6-14 (16:30-18:30), afternoon Hebrew and tutoring for grades 7-12, and an August "Israeli experience" camp (Absorption Department (opens in a new tab)).
  • Two schools mention English speakers or olim in their own descriptions: Dorot (state, HaNechalim) has an English-speakers' group, and Shivtei Israel (state-religious, Moriah) calls itself aliyah-absorbing (municipality (opens in a new tab)).

After school: tzaharonim

The city's after-school programme is run by Amutat Sachlavim in the child's own gan or school, for pre-chova and chova gans and grades 1-2. Gan tzaharonim run Sun-Thu 14:00-17:00; school groups run from the end of the school day to 17:00; on school holidays the hours are 07:30-16:00. The day includes a hot lunch, structured activities and clubs twice a week (municipality (opens in a new tab)). Registration runs alongside school registration; after the deadline places depend on availability (municipality (opens in a new tab)). Single parents can apply to the state for a subsidy for gan tzaharonim; ask the Sachlavim early-childhood office (08-9727156) for the acceptance form first.

Ages 0-3: daycare (ma'on)

The municipality lists daycare centres by neighbourhood, including centres run by WIZO, Emunah, Newton and Sachlavim as well as private family daycares (municipality, Aug 2026 (opens in a new tab)). State fee subsidies for recognised daycares are handled by the Ministry of Labour.

Special education

The city has four special-education schools (Gvanim, Galim, Psifas and Tzlilim) and the Shvilim youth-advancement centre; placements for 5787 were published with the other results (school list (opens in a new tab)). Ask to register early for accessibility arrangements.

Finding schools

The school list gives each school's address, neighbourhood and phone: 21 state and 7 state-religious elementary schools, 6 state and 4 state-religious secondary schools and 3 "unique" secondary schools (municipality (opens in a new tab)). The yearly gan list by neighbourhood is on the gan page (opens in a new tab).
