When does Shabbat start in Modiin?
The municipality publishes its own weekly table, and it lists Shabbat entry 20 minutes before sunset. For Noach (17 Oct 2026) it gives entry 17:49, sunset 18:09 and exit 18:39 (municipality (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)). My Shabbat times page uses Hebcal's calculation for Modiin (geonameid 282926) with that same 20-minute custom (Hebcal (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)). Hebcal's sunset can be a few minutes earlier than the city's, so the two can differ slightly. When in doubt, follow your shul.
The eruv
One eruv covers all of Modiin-Maccabim-Re'ut, including Nofim and Moreshet. It relies mostly on permanent walls and similar barriers rather than wires (municipality, Sep 2026 (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)), and it is checked at least twice a week (ModiinApp (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)). Two things to know:
- The new fire station and the MDA station at the end of Emek HaEla are outside the eruv, so don't carry to or from them except for pikuach nefesh.
- Techum Shabbat: 2,000 amot is about 960 m by the common measure, so a brisk 10-minute walk out of town can take you outside the techum. Inside the city you may walk everywhere (Rabbi Elharar, on the eruv page).
To report an eruv problem, call the eruv supervisor on 050-9861471 (municipality (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)).
Finding a shul
The municipal list (updated 5 Oct 2026) has 126 shuls, each with its nusach and a gabbai phone (municipality (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)). By neighbourhood:

The list also includes Yedid Nefesh (traditional Conservative, egalitarian), Kehillat Yozma (Reform), Shalhevet HaMaccabim (traditional Conservative) and the Renana partnership minyan. Yozma advertises an English-language beit midrash (Yozma (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)).
I could not find an official English list of "Anglo shuls". My shul directory marks the ones whose own listing says the community is English-speaking or runs in English, such as KSYM in Moriah.
Mikvaot
Women's mikvaot are open all year except Yom Kippur and Tisha B'Av; immersion starts about 20 minutes after sunset, and on Friday and erev chag they open 10 minutes after candle lighting for an hour. Yael HaGibora 62 (Buchman) has a facility for women who cannot use stairs (municipality, Sep 2026 (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)). Keilim mikvaot are at Eliyahu HaNavi 14, Emek Dotan 35, Avnei HaChoshen 24, Givat HaLevona 2 (Re'ut) and Yael HaGibora 62.
Kashrut, the eruv, mikvaot, marriage registration and burial are all handled by the Religion Department and Rabbanut at 3 Tziparnit St (08-9726170). The city rabbis are Rabbi Eliyahu Elharar (Modiin) and Rabbi Yaakov Chikotai (Maccabim-Re'ut) (municipality (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)).
